Gurdial Singh Purewal was born to late Shiv Singh & late
Resham Kaur on August 24, 1944 in Shankar, Punjab, India. He passed away on
September 16, 2011 at the age of 67 years in Fresno, CA.
He is survived by his wife Jasbir K. Purewal, his son and daughter-in-law Bill & Harpreet Purewal, his son and daughter-in-law, Parmpreet & Namrita Purewal, and his daughter and son-in-law, Harpreet & Jagjeevan Muhar. He was grandfather to Jaiden, Amren, Jathan, and Aaravdeep. He is also survived by his five siblings Sarwan S. Purewal (Joginder K. Purewal), Kirpal K. Atwal (late Ajaib S. Atwal), Harbans K. Gill (Satnam S. Gill), Ranjit Singh (Balbir K. Singh), Surinder K. Wahid (Avtar S. Wahid) and 22 nieces and nephews whom he regarded as his own.
Gurdial emigrated from India with his parents and siblings in 1958. He attended Cantua Creek Elementary, Tranquility High School, and California State University, Fresno where he earned his B.S. in Accounting. Gurdial worked for the State of California in Sacramento and Los Angeles and retired from the County of Fresno Health Department after 30+ years of service.
In addition to his career in accounting, Gurdial was also a farmer. He came from a farming family in India and continued the farming tradition in the U.S. with his sons.
Gurdial was a genuine, loving man who embodied the term “give unto others”. He made sure those around him were provided for before himself. He made it a priority to help those that emigrated from India. He made his home warm and comfortable to all that entered. He was a social being and enjoyed being in the company of his numerous family members and friends. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.
